The Sequence Pulse: Inside Merlin, the Platform Powering Machine Learning at Shopify
The eCommerce giant published some details about the platform powering its ML workflows
As The Sequence Edge approaches our 300th edition :) , we are starting to experiment with new sections to expand our ML coverage. One of these ideas is focusing on covering content about practitioners building AI solutions in the real world. The goal is to raise awareness about architecture best practices, frameworks and techniques used in real world applications. This is still an experiment so send us feedback if you think its a good idea.
Today, we would like to start with the platform powering ML workloads at ecommerce giant Shopify.
Some of the best inspiration for modern machine learning(ML) architectures can be found in the work of technology incumbents like Facebook, Uber, Airbnb, LinkedIn and several others. This shouldn’t come as a surprise given that these companies are exposed to some of the most complex ML scenarios in the current market. In the past, architectures such as Uber’s Michelangelo or Airbnb’s Bighead have become reference points for modern ML solutions.
Shopify is another one of the companies pioneering ML at scale. Most of Shopify’s mission critical ML workloads are powered by a platform called Merlin.
Let’s find out more about it….
