A thesis about the biggest AI rivarly nobody is talking about.

The Chip Is Not the Product
It is tempting to compare AI companies by lining up accelerators and reading the specification sheet: FLOPS, memory bandwidth, interconnect speed, tokens per second. This is useful, but incomplete in the same way that comparing airlines by engine thrust is incomplete. The engine matters. So do the airframe, airports, pilots, maintenance crews, scheduling software, fuel contracts, and route network. NVIDIA’s achievement is not merely a very fast GPU. It is an industrial system that turns models into running software with unusually little friction.
That is the strongest form of the case for Google as NVIDIA’s only viable competitor. Google is not the only company capable of building a good AI chip. It may not even win every benchmark. But it is the only company that closely mirrors NVIDIA’s control of the whole machine: silicon, interconnects, servers, compilers, frameworks, cloud operations, frontier models, and applications used by billions of people. The claim needs one qualification. Google is the closest full-stack strategic rival, not a universal drop-in replacement, and AWS and AMD make the word “only” uncomfortable.
