Discovering new algorithms might be one of the next frontiers for artificial intelligence(AI). Algorithms encompass many of the key foundations of human cognitions, such as reasoning, planning and adaptation. Furthermore, algorithms are the cornerstone of disciplines such as mathematics, computer science or physics that are at the center of the digital economy. Many of the core algorithms in these disciplines haven’t advanced in decades and we operate under the assumption that we have already found the optimal solutions. Recently, DeepMind published a groundbreaking paper detailing AlphaDev, a deep reinforcement learning(DRL) algorithm that was able to discover new computer science algorithms in key areas such as sorting.
